Sony MDR-M1 Wiring, Replacement & Custom Cables

TL;DR Any of our cables from this product collection are fully compatible with the MDR-M1, MV1, 1AM2, M1ST headphones!

Sony's new MDR-M1 and MDR-MV1 headphones utilize a single entry 4 pole 3.5mm (TRRS) connector going to one cup, delivering balanced audio to the headphones. Sony uses a unique pinout for these headphones, so it must be accounted for in a corresponding cable. All of the information here is applicable to other single entry Sony models like the MDR-MV1, MDR-1AM2, and MDR-M1ST.

WIRING / PINOUT

The 3.5mm going to the headphone uses the standard pinout for 4 pole 3.5mm phone connectors BUT the L- and R- legs are swapped from "industry strandard". See the diagram below:

BALANCED?

The Sony MDR-M1 cans are balanced capable, so there will be no issues if you'd like to use these headphones on common balanced output connections such as full size 4-pin XLR, 2.5mm and 4.4mm outputs.

What cables should I get?

As far as our products at Hart Audio go, you can use any of our "HC-2-MDR" cable models with the T50RP MK4 headphones. Just choose the appropriate interconnects or terminations for the source / output connections you'll be plugging into. RPL-HC-2-MDR | This is a non-modular version of the HC-2-MDR cable. The dropdown at the link is used to select what connector you'd like the cable terminated directly to (standard 3.5mm or balanced XLR / 4.4mm options).
