Meze 99 Classics info, Wiring, Replacement & Custom Cables

TL;DR Any of our cables from this product collection (HC-14s) are fully compatible with the original 99 Classics (Neo, Noir etc.) headphones! Note for the 99 Classics Gen 2, head to this page!

The Meze 99 Classics are a dual entry headphone, taking 3.5mm (TRS or TS) connectors at each ear cup. Due to the unique geometry of the headphone, only certain connectors that are thin enough will fit into the connector recesses and properly work with this headphones.

These headphones are wired such that the use of TS or TRS 3.5mm connectors makes no functional difference to the performance of the headphone provided they are wired properly. 

WIRING / PINOUT

The 3.5mm connectors going to the headphone must be thin enough to fit through the narrow channel in the connector recess on these headphones. We use a long connector on our cable models intended for these headphones. See the diagram below:

BALANCED?

The 99 Classics are balanced capable, so there will be no issues if you'd like to use these cans on common balanced output connections such as full size 4-pin XLR, 2.5mm and 4.4mm outputs.

What cables should I get?

As far as our products at Hart Audio go, you can use any of our HC-14 Cable models with these headphones. Just choose the appropriate interconnects or terminations for the source / output connections you'll be plugging into. Below are links / descriptions for the various versions of this cable that we offer:

Stock cables (1-2 business day lead time)

HC-14 | This is our standard dual 3.5mm cable for the Meze 99 Series. This cable utilizes our modular system, so it will need to be paired with an interconnect using the dropdown at the link, or by shopping in our interconnects collection or Multi-kit Collection.

RPL-HC-14 | This is a non-modular version of the HC-14 cable. The dropdown at the link is used to select what connector you'd like the cable terminated directly to (standard 3.5mm or balanced XLR / 4.4mm options).

Customizable options (1-2 week lead time)

Custom HC-14 | This cable is a customizable version of the HC-14. You can select length, termination and color for the cable.

Custom Twisted Braid HC-14 | This cable is a customizable, Twisted braid version of the HC-9. You can modify length, termination and color(s) for the cable.
